A Message from the Board Chair

Dear Members:

Greetings members, supporters and friends! I’m happy to report that our fiscal year for 2009-2010 has successfully come to a close. We can celebrate many accomplishments and can mark several milestones. As an advocate for our local chamber members, an aggressive agenda was set to support the business interests of our members and we achieved the task. This past year, we found ourselves engaged even more-so with our local, state and federal elected officials on legislative issues impacting our members, city and state, such as AB35- a bill to develop a strategic plan for workforce development and career tech education and the Water Reform effort. We’ve kept our members and the community updated on the latest status of the city’s budget workshops. Our Public Policy Administrative services acted as an arterial force for communicating a variety of issues and concerns related to legislation and its positive or negative impact on local business. As an organization, we advocated on the behalf of our membership by taking a stand, strengthening our relationship with our elected officials and proactively voicing our concerns. We’ve leveraged our position as a chamber by amplifying our voice and aligning with the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce, an organization representing more than 53,000 local area businesses and 16 chambers of commerce, established to be regarded as the voice of business on regional issues in the South Bay.

This past year would not have been successful had it not been for the dedication, commitment and hard work of our board members and chamber staff! Their focus and desire to prioritize and address the needs of the organization are why we’ve had a successful year. The state of our economy has impacted us all. Numerous businesses have closed their doors and employees are without jobs. As a chamber, we’ve lost several valuable resources on our board and staff, such as Cheryl Roberts, Nancy Manfredi and Janice Zogelmann. As chair of the Carson Chamber of Commerce, I’d like to recognize and thank each of them for their dedication, commitment and hard work. In addition I pray that they have the utmost success with their career and future!
